SGP5763G

Date: Tuesday, 20th February, 2007
Time: 0915 hours - 0945 hours
Place: Singapore Botanic Garden, Visitors' Centre
RL: A big, new Toyota Camry parked at a disabled lot absolutely spoilt my outing today. I am a wheelchair-bound driver. Because of this car SGP5763G occupying the lot for the disabled, I had to park at a normal-sized lot & had my car and the poor car next to mine scratched (while getting my wheelchair in & out of the car). By the way, the car SGP5763G did not have any label signifying the driver or the passenger was a disabled.

If only I could park beside car SGP5763G, and have both his/her AND mine car
scratched by my wheelchair or better still, if only divine intervention would
make the driver a new member of the wheelchair users!

NPARKS should do something to enforce the proper use of car park lots meant for the handicapped. A letter should be sent to the owner of car SGP5763G.

Mockingbird: A case like this should have been brought to the attention of the staff manning the park right there and then so they could wheel-lock the car. Alternatively, a call could have been made to URA so they could assign a warden to issue the car a summon.

Ya, this guy is wrong coz use disable lot. But you also shouldn't scrath other people car with ur wheelchair.
You should approach the management people abt this.
Can imagine how sad the people who park next to u, when he/she realized somebody has scrathed his/her car ?

A disabled person forced to get on and off his car next to such a car so inconsiderately parked, would be forgiven for accidentally scratching the car with neither any disabled driver nor disabled passenger(s). Most people would say the able-bodied driver who doesn't spare a thought for the handicapped, deserves to get his car scratched.

There aren't enough special reserved parking lots if any car that carries a disabled pax is allowed to park there. Even when I ferry my aged grandparents, who incidentally use walking aids, I DO NOT use the disabled lots. I drop them at the most convenient spot & then drive away to park elsewhere. A driver with a disability cannot do this. So, spare a thot for the disabled drivers.

To Subutex

How true is it that our govt has outsourced the enforcemt of carparks to the pte sector? If so the nabbing of idiots like the owner of SGP5763G can never work. If there is no law, then perhaps taking the law into yr own hand is not unfair. I support your view.

To Subutex: One way of getting back at these idiots if they park very close to your car is by opening your door hard to dent theirs :p

Hope that the authority can send these people to Corrective Work Order(CWO), it will be at least form some part of public education and social responsibilities for these people. Maybe they dont understand our needs.
